A quick glimpse into the machine learning world
What comes to your mind when you hear the term “Machine learning”? Maybe some robots destroying humanity like in Terminator or The Matrix? Well, let us reassure you that the truth is way less apocalyptic than that.
What is machine learning?
If we have to define machine learning, we would first say that this is one of the latest technologies developed. This technology consists of machines learning from data and performing tasks without previous programming. Specifically, they identify data patterns and make predictions based on them.
Sounds good, right? Does it scare you? Well, it shouldn’t because this technology was developed to help, not to harm. It is said that the best medicine to deal with fear is knowledge, so let’s get ready to learn a bit more about this topic.
Types of machine learning
There are three types of machine learning: reinforcement, supervised and unsupervised.
- Reinforcement learning: The computer learns from its own experience, based on trial and error (just like we do).
- Supervised learning: The computer is trained with a system of labels associated with data that allow it to make decisions or predictions. In other words, we tell the model what we want it to learn.
- Unsupervised learning: The computer relies on data that have not been labeled. The goal is to analyze the information to group it or obtain new insights.
